How Much Does Faux Fur Cost?

Faux Fur Basics, Buying Guides, Garment Care and Faux Fur Safety
How much does faux fur cost? More specifically, how much does faux fur fabric cost? As a brand specializing in women's faux fur coats, it is natural that we are asked this question often.
While we know exactly how our own products are priced (we'll get to that shortly), we also understand that you have plenty to consider when buying faux fur: fit, price, material safety, and more. So the most honest answer we can give to the question, “How much does faux fur cost?” is: it depends.
Why? Just as you choose everyday kitchen staples based on what you need, the right faux fur depends on your particular use. When shopping for fabric, each of us has a budget and a purpose in mind. The key is finding the best value for your needs.

This usually means choosing faux fur fabric that balances quality and durability while still fitting your budget—and, of course, your particular use.
But how much should you expect to spend? What is the average price of faux fur?
To answer those questions, we first looked at the price ranges for different types of faux fur and then explored the factors that affect its cost.
How Much Does Faux Fur Cost?
The most basic faux fur fabric is typically solid-colored, though it is available in a range of colors and textures. Depending on the brand, retail prices for this entry-level faux fur generally range from $10 to $25 per yard.

That is clearly a broad range, so it may not be especially useful when budgeting for your next project. But it also means you have more choices. Not every project needs the highest-grade fabric; a more affordable option may do the job, while other projects need a better-quality fabric to truly stand out.

Let’s take a closer look at the world of faux fur fabric and explore why faux fur can cost so much.
What Affects the Price of Faux Fur?
Naturally, the lower-priced faux fur fabrics in the range above cannot match the quality of the higher-priced options. Returning to the idea of value for money, this gives makers the opportunity to find the option that best fits their needs and budget.
At Stanetco, we are committed to transparency and integrity in our products, in the way we operate, and in the manufacturing of our faux fur fabrics. Our faux fur is made through a knitting process using high-quality yarns. This improves durability and softness while giving the material a more realistic appearance.
Faux Fur Fiber Content and Construction
Put simply, fiber content refers to the type of yarn used to make faux fur fabric. Most faux fur is knitted from yarns made from a blend of acrylic and polyester.
There are two main types of faux fur yarn: standard acrylic, which is the most common material used to make faux fur fabric, and modified acrylic. The latter is less common but has a glossier appearance.
Where Faux Fur Is Made
Making faux fur fabric generally involves two steps:
- Producing the yarn.
- Processing the fabric, such as knitting the yarn into fabric and printing it.
As you would expect, both the origin of the faux fur yarn and the place where the fabric is knitted affect the price of the finished product.
Faux Fur Manufacturing
Just as the origin of the yarn matters, the process of knitting it into fabric also has a direct effect on the final cost. Our fabric is made in China, using yarn from Zhejiang, China. The factory has also supplied fabrics to other faux fur retailers in China and the United States, and has worked in the faux fur industry for more than ten years. Stanetco maintains a close working relationship with the manufacturer so that we can keep innovating and refining better products for the faux fur market.
Faux Fur Fabric Weight and Width
Most faux fur suppliers offer fabric that is 60 inches wide and weighs about 1,000 to 1,200 grams per yard. Fabric weight and width directly affect cost. For example, a fabric weighing 1,600 grams per yard requires far more yarn to knit than a fabric weighing 600 grams per yard.
Because faux fur is a knitted fabric, producing a heavier material takes more time. Printing also uses more dye. Both factors increase the final cost.
Contrary to what many people think, pile height does not have a major effect on price, because pricing is determined by the product’s weight. For example, some faux fur has a shorter pile but weighs more because it is knitted more densely.
Faux Fur Finishing Processes
Faux fur fabric comes in many colors and textures. As a result, a range of finishing processes may be used during production, and each one affects the final price.
The most affordable version is solid faux fur, and its production involves only a tumbling process with no additional finishing steps. Another version starts with a fabric base that is printed before the final finishing stages are completed.
Discharge printing is a finishing process. It uses a special solution to remove color from selected parts of the yarn, which are then recolored to create a multicolored fabric.
Jacquard weaving is the most expensive weaving method. It uses yarns in multiple colors to create the desired design, usually with up to five colors. It can produce a wide range of patterns, motifs and animal-inspired designs. However, production efficiency is low: when weaving with five colors, a manufacturer can produce no more than 100 yards of fabric a day, compared with 600 to 700 yards a day for solid-color fabric.
Faux Fur Shipping and Packaging
Many customers may not realize that the way fabric is shipped from its country of production to its country of sale can significantly affect its price. The packaging method for faux fur fabric also makes a difference.
Most factories transport fabric in woven polypropylene sacks to reduce shipping costs. However, fabric in sacks at the top of a container may be fine, while sacks at the bottom can become crushed and often cannot be sold.
Stanetco packages all faux fur products in vacuum bags. The packaging helps keep the fur dry and minimizes exposure to dust during transit. This does increase our shipping costs, but our goal is to deliver products that arrive in new condition.
The Price of Stanetco Faux Fur Products
In recent years, faux fur fabric has become increasingly popular, and it is easy to see why. It is versatile, durable and soft. With many colors and textures available, it can be used to create a wide variety of products.
The textile industry also recognizes it as a more ethical and more sustainable alternative to real fur.
Stanetco offers high-quality women's faux fur coats in a range of lengths, colors and patterns, along with popular solid-color styles. For our fabrics, we prioritize materials that are environmentally responsible and safe.
